Save Scum and Other Sins
With the last few weeks of development flying by, our team has had a brief chance to look back at ourselves and what we've gotten done week by week in an odd form of self-indulgent pre-post mortem. For us, it was a chance to take some pride in the journey we've gone on as Game Developers, seeing how we managed to keep the self-replicating monster of Scope-creep in check, balanced out tasks to avoid late-stage crunch and how our skills improved after months of effort. This week we're working on getting some of our late-game objectives done and dusted to get the complete player experience out of the way and give us some time for any additional polish and bug fixing. The auto-saving system, boss variety and the improved tutorial are the main development tasks that's got our programmers with their heads down. These tasks are all pretty hefty and have carried over from last week but we're excited to get them done and we're fairly confident we can this week.
Our Design team has built the last two levels of the game, giving us the full and beautified map and allowing us to give each of them their own unique environmental issue. Falling rocks, rivers and lava all spread out the game to add that little extra spice to the environment. Our art team has been doing some amazing work on the environments to give the game a beautiful makeover with lots of background details to help tell the story of the game world. Lastly, our Audio team has been blowing the rest of the team out of water, churning out amazing track after amazing track to give each level its own unique sound and feel as the player moves through. They've been making sure the transition from each motif is easy on the ears and keeps the player engaged and rowdy! If you want an example of what I'm talking about, we'll be sharing one of the tracks early in our discord!
