Alpha on the Horizon

Now we need to chart a course going forwards.

With the release of the heavily imperfect v0.5, we rapidly approach our deadlines for Alpha. While pleased with the feedback we've gotten from recent playtests, we're well aware that there's still so much for us to do before we can even dare call Deity's Form feature locked.  But first, it's been a while since we've reported on each team's progress. The programming team is still working on getting a game structure working, the first boss's mechanics working better than expected. They've also implemented a short few text prompts at the start of each game to serve as a much needed temporary tutorial, this will need to be replaced with a proper start before we reach Alpha. We've had a massive art overhaul in the meantime, each of the enemies getting new, unique sprites and animations, the boss enemy included as well as a custom font to use for all of our text, most of which are implemented. No rest for the wicked, however,  as they're working on combat animations for the player and art for the environment as well. The audio team has been making some amazing tracks that we've been implementing this past week, also addressing a lingering issue of the music being too loud and drowning out the sound effects. Lastly the Design team has been designing a number of rooms with the new art that will serve as the building blocks for the randomized floors that we will be implementing.

But once we reach Alpha, where do we go from there? Well we've a number of aspects of the game that we haven't even begun to put into the current builds, such as the narrative, accessibility and polish. Similarly to our remappable keybinds, we plan to implement as many accessibility options as possible such as allowing for a dyslexic friendly font, colourblind friendly design, gameplay options to tailor difficulty and other options to allow the player to tailor their experience to best enjoy it.  During pre-production, we set aside a large portion of our time, almost all of our time between Beta and release in fact, for massively improving the game feel in every aspect. We plan on polishing everything until it shines.
